Booster Meeting Notes

There are several upcoming events and activities in which the band will need your help and support with. Please see above calendar for some of them. Listing of more is below:

1 - Wind Ensemble Performance at University of Alabama - we will need several chaperones for this event. You will be able to travel with the band on charter buses. Please contact Dana Williams to volunteer. We will also be providing food and drinks to the students before their performance.

2 - The next booster meeting has been moved from Tuesday, Feb. 2 to MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8 due to scheduling conflicts. Please make plans to attend. Many upcoming events will be discussed and plans will be started for several events.

3 - ABA Music Assessment - we will need many chaperones for this event. We do not have the schedule for this yet but are hoping that Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will be going at two different times that day. So, we will need Symphonic Band parents as well as Wind Ensemble band parents to chaperone. Again, contact Dana Williams to volunteer. More details coming soon.

4 - Java and Jazz - we will be forming a committee to do the planning and work for this event. Please contact Wendy Fortenberry to volunteer to help. We would like to make this more of a community event this year. More details below.

5 - Upcoming fundraiser - Cookbook sales. We need several people to volunteer to serve on a Cookbook Sales Committee. We will be collecting recipes and formulating a cookbook to sell around Mother's Day. Please contact Deborah Triplett to volunteer. More details on the Fundraising page of this website.

Java and Jazz

Java and Jazz will be upon us before we know it. The date has been set tentatively for April 10th. Mark your calendars. Last year ended up being a profitable year for Java and Jazz. Java and Jazz had previously been known as Steak and Jazz. Last year we changed the whole format to a coffee and dessert menu with the best Jazz entertainment in town !!

It takes a lot to pull this off. We have to transform a middle school cafeteria into a Jazz cafe. We need lots of help doing this and many volunteers. We need you !! Yes you the band parent who is reading my email. It doesn't matter if your child is in the Jazz band or not. The money raised at this event goes to support the band in general. We all have special talents, even if yours is just hanging up the light bulbs, setting up the tables, picking up the food and supplies. You dont' have to have a special decorating talent. You can be the one there that takes the direction of where to put what. You can be the parent that has a connection to a person who will donate an item to the silent auction.

We take all donations: trips, merchandise, beauty services, golf driving ranges, gift cards ... no donation is too small for the silent auction. Point is its not just a Jazz band thing. This benefits the entire THS band program.

We do need a committee to plan the event. To get the ball rolling. I am heading the committee up and will need a trusty sidekick this year as Jackson is going to be a senior next year and well next year I want to just be in the audience and watch. We need a LARGE committee to do this... and I would so appreciate your talents, whatever they may be. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help. You can email me by clicking here. Thompson High School Band Alumni Scholarship

General Band Fundraiser

For all those who are online shoppers, we have a new way to raise money for the general band fund.

Parents Picking Up Students

When picking up your child after away band events, please do not park in the circular area behind the band room. Use any available parking in the student parking lot in back. We need the circular area for the buses and the equipment truck. Thank you!
